Beeston 3 - 0 Brooklands

Beeston moved into third position in the England Hockey Premiership with a deserved win against Brooklands, on Sunday.

On a cold miserable day, both sides had trouble returning to outdoor hockey after the two month indoor break.  Beeston eventually broke the deadlock in the 26th minute, when Andrew Monte fired home the Bees third penalty corner.

Monte repeated the trick four minutes after the half-time break with a high flick from Beeston's fifth penalty corner.

The Manchester side were given a life line in the 61st minute when England keeper, George Pinner was adjudged to have fouled a Brooklands forward. Pinner kept Beeston on course with a good save from the resulting penalty stroke, taken by Brooklands, David Seddon.  It was not to be Brooklands day. They created three penalty corners to Beeston's nine but lacked the fire power to really challenge.

The Bees completed the win in the 66th minute, when Matt Taylor picked out Martin Jones on the left of the circle and Jones smashed home a reverse stick shot.

Beeston now play the top two sides in the next two weeks.  Next Sunday they travel to league leaders, Reading, for a 2.30pm start at Sonning. The following week they meet Surbiton at home.

Coach, Zak Jones, summed up the result, "Obviously we are pleased with the result. The weather has hindered our preparations and the indoor season, only involves a small proportion of the squad. If we can get a few quality training sessions under our belt we expect to be challenging for everything out there."
