BEESTON 9 - 0 West Bridgford

England Hockey Cup Round 2

Beeston defeated Midlands Premier side, West Bridgford in the England Hockey Cup, to continue the recent cup successes which have seen them reach the National Final in the last two seasons.

Beeston took the opportunity of the home draw to rest, George Pinner, Tim Whiteman, Zak Jones, Stephen Lawrence, Adam Dixon, Jamie Parker, Martin Jones and Alistair Wilson from the side that faced Brooklands in the National League, the day before.

In came Tom Skinner, Sam Arnold and Dave Nicklin from the Beeston Swarm. Five players made the first team debuts; Philipp Studt, Ollie Willars, Alex Armstrong, Richard Lawrence and Sam Ward.

West Bridgford had an early chance but Tom Skinner pulled off a brilliant save from Adam Berman and the young Beeston side, littered with players from the Midlands Challenge League squad, soon powered on.

Sam Ward and Carl Smith both scored a brace on their Cup debuts for the Bees. Chris Seddon and Sam Dixon hit one apiece and David Griffiths blasted home  in last minute,  to complete his hat-trick and send Beeston into Round 3 with a measured performance against their local rivals.

Assistant coach, Steve Musson commented, "We were delighted with the team performance today. Our 5 senior players reacted well with the army of youngsters and Bridgford would have found it difficult to win the ball for long periods of the game."

Steve had a double success as he continued to coach the Beeston Under 18 squad, in the following England hockey cup match. The Beeston U18 side ran out 31-0 winners against Derwent U18.

The Bees have a week off to prepare for the Euro Hockey League before they meet Surbiton in the England National League, on Sunday 18th October (2.00pm at Sugden Road).
