EXETER UNIVERSITY 1 - 4 BEESTON

Beeston set off to Devon after the Hampstead win and looked remarkable fresh on Sunday morning in the midday clash on a slippery, algae infested surface.
Beeston brought on Sam Ward in the 10th minute and 14 seconds later the eighteen year old linked up with Martin Jones and opened the scoring for the Bees as he chipped the advancing goalkeeper. David Griffiths blasted Beeston into a two goal lead eleven minutes later but the students replied in the 31st minute, with a superb right wing cross and a clever deflection from Ian Haley.
But Beeston killed off the result around the half time interval. Andrew Monte fired in his third penalty corner strike of the weekend in the 35th minute and Chris Seddon pirouetted around the Exeter defence before smashing the ball home in the 39th minute to give the Bees six points from a difficult and tiring weekend. Beeston now climb the Premiership and move into fourth position and look a much better unit since their return from Euro Hockey duties in Paris.
Beeston youngster, Sam ward summed up his first month in the Beeston first team, "A month ago I was picked for a Round 2 Cup match, then I was thrown into the Reading League match, then I was told I was in the Euro League squad to travel to Paris, then I was selected for both matches. When I scored my first Premiership goal on Sunday I wasn't really sure how to celebrate. After the game against Exeter I was told I would be in the East Grinstead squad then I was told to report to Beeston on Monday morning at 9.00am to clean the pitch. It's certainly been a different month but I am loving every moment of it."
Beeston's next Premiership match against fellow European competitors, East Grinstead, now takes on added value as both sides hope to be back in Europe next season and contests between the two teams are usually full of expressive attacking hockey. The two sides play at Highfields Hockey Centre, (2.00pm) on Sunday November 15th.
